Coding an animated online magazine for cultural professionals

V/A - Various Artists was Pro Helvetia's online magazine for people working in culture. I built the frontend on WordPress, animations included.

Why the magazine existed

Pro Helvetia launched V/A - Various Artists to link cultural professionals around the world and to show their ideas and work. Reaching that audience called for a surprising magazine: an artistic design full of motion, yet still managed from the main Pro Helvetia multisite.

What I built

I implemented the design by the agency Hammer; Staacks handled communication. The header produces its own shapes and colours. A custom language switch takes search engines and load times into account. Animations and micro-interactions run across the whole site, and the archive offers a dynamic filter by category.

Outcome

A site like this depends on design and code being tuned to each other, detail by detail. V/A went live in April 2021, and its last article appeared in December 2023. The site remains online as an archive, run from the same multisite as the other Pro Helvetia sites.
